At the RE Store, millions of pounds of perfectly good building material are saved from the landfill every year. All this donated material is processed, priced, and put out on the floor, then finely curated for folks to browse. There is a sense of awe walking through the lumber in the warehouse and seeing the sheer quantity of wood that would otherwise have gone to a landfill. The same is true of the lighting department. And the cabinet selection. And the endless hardware…
While much of the material is in good shape and can go directly to a new home, other things might need a little TLC, some adjustment, or a creative vision in order to make a good find into an absolute gem. We want to help folks bridge this know-how gap.
As a first-time (or fiftieth-time) RE Store visitor, you may look at the selection of material and wonder what’s best for your needs. Or when something needs fixing, you may wonder how to do it yourself and what tools you’ll need. A little bit of guidance goes a long way when tackling a new project. And while YouTube is an incredible resource, the comment section has nothing on hands-on training with a knowledgeable instructor who’s there to answer your questions.
Right now, we are in the process of launching a workshop series to help people with reuse projects of all sorts. But first, we need patient, kind, and caring folks who are keen to share their skills and knowledge to help teach! We are looking for teachers who can turn on that lightbulb—literally and figuratively—to help empower participants to learn basic skills in reuse and repair so they can tackle projects with confidence, saving money and building resilience.
If that sounds like you…
